The Art of getting Lost

The Art of Getting Lost is an editorial photobook documenting Rye Lane Market in Peckham, exploring how photography, layout and making can work together to reflect a specific place and experience.

The work combines black and white film and digital colour photography, a deliberate choice to bring two different qualities of image into conversation rather than treat them separately. The narrative guides the reader through the market from one entrance to the other. Images repeat and resurface across the pages, mirroring the way attention shifts and returns when moving through a space.

The intention was to make something that felt personal and tactile in contrast to the market's largely commercial environment. This led to decisions around hand binding, paper choice and a loose approach to layout, using negative space and varied formats to slow the pace and let images breathe. The final book was hand-bound using kettle stitch, with a ribbon sourced from the market woven into the cover.
